Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to create a final set.

The opponent defended four early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
