A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on recently.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities a second time.
She said Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five children.
